If anyone is in Christ they are a new creation; old things are passing away; all things are becoming new.  2 Corinthians 5:17

I have always found new life when I’ve gone to the Word of God in a time of need. Sometimes, it may take me time to clear the distractions out of my head, to learn how to be still and listen, but if I give it my undivided attention and focus, it has always grown me in a new way for God. I have never gone to His Word in a time I've needed comfort or strength, and not found His peace. I have never gone to His Word for guidance and not found His direction. As I said yesterday, His Word is the single greatest way He makes us a new creation. It's important to note that I do think people can go to His Word and twist it to make meaning in a way to fit their needs, or I think people come up empty after searching scripture because they don't find what they're looking for.  It's true that we can look to scripture through the lens of our own selfish desires and needs, and we can come up empty when we want it to serve our needs.  But if we are truly opening His Word with a humble and repentant heart and a desire to grow in Him and be made new, His Word will never fail us. The most vibrant Christians I know are people who are often, regularly, diligently feeding themselves on God’s book. The problem is the distractions of this world can keep us from the life-giving power of His Word. The enemy can convince us we have more pressing things to do than to pick up scripture - the demands of our family, or work, or our current trial are more important than spending time with Him. Or the enemy can tell us we deserve to relax in front of the TV after a long day, or that we deserve a break with all that we've been dealing with lately. Or he can convince us that since we are away on vacation or our schedule is temporarily changed or we are facing a trial so overwhelming that we can take some time off from the Word. Nothing should take precedence over your time in the Word.  Nothing. It doesn't matter what you have going on today - get into the Word. There is simply nothing that you do that is more important than what He has to say to you through scripture today - nothing. It is only our own sense of self-importance that has us thinking otherwise. If you have neglected your time in the Word, get on your knees and ask for forgiveness, then commit to opening scripture every single day, no matter what. There is simply no way we can face the heavy trials in our lives without it. I would be lost walking this road if I didn't have the comfort and strength of His presence through His Word.
