Journal Entry ~ 05/31/18

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. —James 1:5-8

We can tap into wisdom any time we need it. In those moments we just don’t know what to do, we have access to wisdom. When we are faced with a difficult decision, or we are trying to find the right words, He promises to give us wisdom any time we ask. Perhaps we need to better understand a situation, or we need to see it from a different perspective, perhaps we want answers to difficult question, or we want truths revealed. All we need to do is ask and He will pour His wisdom on us generously.

I have spent far too many days in my own wisdom, reacting to situations without seeking His wisdom. It has taken me a long time to recognize how controlling I am when difficult trials hit. I am guilty of not taking the time to bring it before Him and allowing His wisdom to respond. He is so patient with me. I am learning to confess my sin of control much quicker, and allowing Him to take the lead.

We are also told we must ask in faith, without any doubting - we must believe He will give it to us.  Just as the winds bring chaos to the sea, doubt can bring chaos to our lives. Doubt is a lack of confidence that God will keep His promises, and faith is an active confidence that God’s promises are always true.  We know He can build our faith and remove our doubts -all we have to do is ask Him to remove our unbelief and strengthen our faith and He responds. He responds with a glimpse of the majesty and awesomeness of God that obliterates the nagging unbelief of doubt.

We do not have to be at the mercy of every doubt that comes into our minds. Like the waves of the sea, doubts will come. However, we do not have to let them undermine our faith. I've learned that doubts can actually drive us back to God’s promises, rather than cause us to back away from Him. The key is taking our questions directly to the Lord.  Doubting is failing to believe that God will keep His promises. Doubt is sin - not when it first flashes into your mind, but rather when you dwell on it. If you doubt, you cannot expect to receive anything from the Lord. It is critical to take those doubts captive and being them to Him. He can handle our doubts and questions - no matter what they are.

Cling to the truth that God is more than enough to meet the challenges in your life, and that He does keep every promise.
