Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. - Psalm 90:14
So many people live their lives unsatisfied with something - their house, their job, their marriage, their kids, their weight, their relationships with family or with friends. We want something different than we have, and that lack of satisfaction leads to complaining and discontent, which starts us down a dangerous path looking for satisfaction in the world.
Our hearts long to be satisfied, in fact, we were created to long for that satisfaction. The problem is we spend an enormous amount of time looking for that satisfaction in the world, but we only end up disappointed at its momentary relief.
What we really want from all this engagement with the Word of God and the work of His Spirit in the answer to our prayers is that our hearts will be satisfied with God and not with the world. Where does deep sustaining satisfaction come from? It comes from God.
Psalm 90:14 teaches us to pray that prayer. If we ask for our hearts to be satisfied in Him and only Him, He will grant us that prayer. It may take a little while because of the work He needs to do, but He will bring us such peace and contentment in our circumstances. He'll need to expose some parts of our heart that need repair and that’ll hurt, but He will satisfy your heart if you seek Him. There is so much freedom in not seeking your satisfaction from the world, so much peace in seeking your satisfaction in Him.
