Journal Entry ~ 03/23/19

1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. - Colossians 3:1-2

The enemy can destroy our peace in a moment with a simple “What if?” question. “What if the surgery is not successful?” “What if the treatment doesn’t work?” “What if the cancer returns?” “What if he leaves?” “What if the counseling doesn’t work?” “What if he never comes back?” “What if my kids walk away from God?” Satan knows that questions fill our mind and heart with chaos, and he's at the ready to tempt us every single time.

But in this verse, God reminds us how to battle the enemy - we fix our minds on Him and we trust Him. When we trust in the everlasting rock, He chases the chaos away. When we trust, He replaces confusion and questions with peace.

But how do we do that?  By keeping our minds fixed on Him. We have to capture our thinking when the questions come - and some days that is so much harder than others. Some days it is a constant battle, but that is where we find our perfect peace. When we hear the questions, we have to stop. Recognize the temptation to fear as the enemy, and command him to stop.

As hard as that is on some days, greater is He who lives in you, than he who lives in the world. The same power that rose Jesus from the dead lives in you - that's enough power to overcome those thoughts. And when we do take those thoughts captive and fix our minds on Jesus, we find his peace. Keeping our minds saturated with God keeps the waters calm even when the storm is raging all around us.
