And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." - Matthew 26:39

When we talk about aligning our will with God's will, we're really talking about aligning our dreams and desires with Him. We all have dreams of brighter and better things in our lives - a marriage, a house, children, a job, our health, our loved ones to be saved...the list goes on and on. And while each of those dreams may be pure at the surface level, we need to be wary of what inner desires fuel our dreams.

Our flesh impacts our desires, and our flesh is deceitful, so we must take the time to reflect on our passions - we can be blind to how our inner desires, our earthly passions, can be mixed in with our Godly dreams. And if we are not discerning, our desires will be manipulated by Satan. It is these desires that shape our dreams.

Jesus' prayer must be our prayer because sin still lingers within us, and we need help sorting the fleshly desires with the Godly desires. We need to repeatedly ask Him to expose our hearts and our desires to us because we are blind to them. If we truly want to pray His will, then we need to see our heart and our desire as He does.
