Journal Entry ~ 06/17/19

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. - Hebrews 10:22-25

The last part of this verse caught my attention today - and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. I don't spend too much time thinking on the end times, trying to evaluate whether or not the end is actually drawing near. To be honest, it makes me uncomfortable to dwell on it too much. I prefer to hand those thoughts up to God and trust His timing.

But one cannot deny the signs around us that point to the end times - there is no doubt the Day is drawing near. The world is a chaotic, broken place that seems to be spinning out of control at times. As the evil and the hate rises in this world, God reminds us in these verses that it is all the more important we meet as believers, and we meet often.

It is through our meeting that our faith is stirred and our hope is encouraged, and we remind ourselves that this is not our home. We also need to remind ourselves not to participate in the madness that lives in the world. It is so easy to get caught up in the drama, the gossip, the anger, the revenge. We need encouragement from one another to stand firm in such a broken world.
