I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; (Psalm 121:1-3 NIV)

Such comfort in these verses for me. They're a reminder that He wants us to lift up our eyes to Him. When we're feeling cast down, we are to lift our eyes to Him ~ not to earthly answers, but to Him.

As I’ve been driving around, looking up at His beautiful creation in the mountains that surround Sonoma Valley, I’m reminded of who He is - He is the maker of heaven and earth. He is the God who created everything ~ from the oceans to the mountains to the stars to you. How arrogant we are to think the maker of all creation wouldn't or couldn't handle our problems?

We can trust in the One who created this world with a perfect plan - He still has a plan and He doesn't make mistakes. He didn’t make a mistake when He creates those majestic mountains, He didn’t make a mistake when He created you, and He didn't a mistake when He led us through the trials in our lives. Even though we may not have an understanding as why He allowed certain people or situations into our lives, we can trust that He is sovereign in all things and that He has a plan. He is good, and He loves us. His plan may not make sense to us at the time, but there is a reason that does make sense...He knows. We just need to trust Him.

When I feel down, when I am burdened by the heavy load I am carrying, I need to remind myself to stop and lift my eyes to see His creation. I need to take my eyes of off my ability to create, and fix them on Him.
